Hong Kong, Sep 24 (DPA) A fugitive wearing slippers who managed to escape Hong Kong police after a movie-style car chase was on the run Thursday.

In scenes reminiscent of an action film, the man drove at speeds of more than 100 km per hour Wednesday night, circling roundabouts several times and ramming a car and mini-bus that blocked his way.

He also jumped a red light and reversed his car, a Mazda, into a police car five times in a bid to evade capture as he led police on a 16-km chase along highways between Tai Po and Fanling in the New Territories.

The chase came to an end after the driver lost control of the car and knocked down three bollards in a street.

He then jumped out of the car and fled on foot. It was at this point that it was noticed he was wearing slippers, the South China Morning Post said.

No one was seriously injured in the chase. However, a female driver and some of the police involved were treated for minor injuries.

Police said the man, in his 20s, had been on the run for months and was wanted in connection with drug-related cases. He was not the owner of the car.
