Dhaka, Feb 1 (IANS) Manav Das grabbed the opening day’s lead with a three-under 69 and, with his teammate and defending champion Khalin Joshi, India held the team lead after the first day at the 2012 Bangladesh Open Amateur Golf Championships at the Kurmitola Golf Club here Wednesday.

Das was one ahead of Abdus Sobarhan (70), who was not the official entry for Bangladesh A team.

Khalin Joshi shot 74 and India’s score was 143, ahead of Sri Lanka’s 147, who played with N Thangaraja (73) and Vijita Bhandara (74). Bangladesh’s Md Nazim (73) and Dulal Hussain (75) were third at 148.

In Individual standings, Das (69) was followed by Sobarhan (70) and there were three golfers Md Rubel, N Thangaraja (Sri Lanka) and Md Nazim (Ban) at 73.

Das had birdies on first, third, seventh and then 14th and 18th. He bogeyed in the sixth and 16th.

Players from seven countries — Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka — are participating in the five-day meet.
