London, Dec 2 (IANS) An ancient prediction made by the central American Mayan civilisation that said the world will end in 2012 was wrongly translated and people have nothing to worry about, a British expert has said.

The Mayan doomsday prophecy said the world will end Dec 21 next year, The Sun reported.

Mayan civilisation expert Sven Gronemeyer has now said the world has nothing to worry about because when the 1,300-year-old stone tablet was cracked, the symbols were almost illegible and the wrong meaning came out.

Gronemeyer, who works at the La Trobe University in Australia, said the prophecy ‘merely predicts a Mayan god, Bolon Yokte, will return to Earth on that date’.

And because Bolon Yokte is the god of creation and war, people must ‘prepare the ground’ for his arrival.

He said there was nothing on the stone tablet to indicate the god will destroy the world.
