Beijing, Dec 25 (IANS) Migratory birds that have set up base in East Dongting Lake, China’s second largest fresh water lake, have damaged crops worth 25 million yuan ($4 million).

The wetlands around East Dongting in central Hunan province attracted around 150,000 birds in 2010-11.
This year the birds have damaged large areas of crops, the China Daily reported Tuesday. The forestry bureau is planning to subsidize farmers for the damaged crops.
