Berlin, Nov 3 (IANS) German football club Borussia Monchengladbach inflicted on Hoffenheim their first defeat of the season, beating them 3-1 while newly-promoted SC Paderborn upset Hertha Berlin by an identical margin on home soil in the 10th round of matches in the German Bundesliga.

For Monchengladbach, Patrick Herrmann scored a brace to down Hoffenheim and remain unbeaten in the league Sunday, reports Xinhua.
Monchengladbach got a bright start on home soil as Andre Hahn put them ahead with just 12 minutes into the game. The unmarked midfielder volleyed home inside the box a following a cross by Herrmann.
Hoffenheim responded at the half-hour mark through Anthony Modeste who utilised a through-ball by Steven Zuber to slot home from seven meters.
Monchengladbach grabbed the lead two minutes later as Herrmann made it 2-1 following a cross by Hahn. Hoffenheim were unable to fight back and the German midfielder put the game beyond any doubt in the 52nd minute with his second goal of the match.
Despite the result, Monchengladbach slipped to the third spot, due to a weaker goal difference in comparison with second placed Wolfsburg.
Hoffenheim stayed in fourth place of the standings.
Meanwhile, Berlin lost 1-3 to newly promoted Paderborn.
Marvin Bakalorz put the underdogs in the lead on 28 minutes before Berlin’s Salomon Kalou restored parity just before the break.
Paderborn kept up the pressure and were rewarded seven minutes into the second half as Elias Kachunga secured the hosts a 2-1 lead and Alban Meha rounded off the scoring with a 3-1 victory.
They remain in 13th position on the table while newly promoted Paderborn climb to the seventh place.
Elsewhere, SC Freiburg won against FC Cologne thanks to a single goal by Vladimir Darida.
