Cairo, May 31 (IANS) Egypt’s public prosecutor Tuesday decided not to transfer former president Hosni Mubarak from the hospital in Sharm el-Sheikh to Tora prison in Cairo due to his failing health situation.
A statement posted on the public prosecution’s official Facebook page said the decision was based on the report by a medical committee formed to examine Mubarak’s health, Xinhua reported.
Mubarak suffers from low blood pressure, momentary failure in blood circulation to the brain that leads to loss of consciousness and other heart problems that could cause a sudden heart attack, the report said.
He also suffers from depression and overall weakness, it said, recommending not to move him to the prison hospital.
The committee said the Tora prison hospital would not be able to provide adequate medical care to Mubarak.
The former president, who stepped down Feb 11 following 18 days of anti-government demonstrations, has been in custody at the Sharm el-Sheikh International Hospital since April.
Investigation on charges of corruption and killing peaceful protesters is going on against the leader.
