Beijing, Aug 1 (IANS) Hailstorms and tornadoes killed at least 97 people across China in July, authorities said.

Around 20 million people in 27 provinces were affected by the disasters. The storms cause economic loss totalling 13.28 billion yuan (around $2 billion), Xinhua reported.

Jiangsu, Hubei, Shaanxi, Shanxi and Gansu provinces were the worst hit, said the ministry of civil affairs.

Among the 97 deaths, 60 were killed by lightning.
