New York, May 2 (IANS) New Yorkers beware! The warm weather this summer could bring a massive outbreak of stinky bed bugs across the city, says a pest control expert.

The city may see a rise in bugs in homes, theatres, hotels and clothing stores.

Jeffrey White, a researcher with the Bedbug Central and Cooper Pest Solutions, told Fox News all about the pest and the things people should do to stay away from them.

The full name of the pest is brown marmorated stink bug, as they have a musky odour associated with them. Relatively harmless, the pests came to US in the late 1990’s.

White says that in order to avoid the bugs, one should avoid discarded furniture.

He asks people to inspect their clothes on returning home from outside, and to wash clothes in hot water to kill the bugs.

If one has gone outside with a laptop bag or purse, it is best advised not to put them on the bed or couch.

One can also put the bags in large plastic containers or zip-lock plastic bags, he said.
