Islamabad, July 12 (IANS) At least nine terrorists were killed during a search operation, launched by security forces in Pakistan’s border area of South and North Waziristan, an official statement said on Sunday.

“At least nine terrorists were killed in a cordon and search operation. Four soldiers also embraced shahadat (martyrdom),” Geo News cited the Inter Service Public Relations wing as saying in a statement.
Pakistan has been battling a home-grown Islamist insurgency for over a decade following the late 2001 US-led invasion of Afghanistan.
The Pakistan army began a major campaign “Zarb-e-Azab” against Taliban and other militant strongholds in the North Waziristan tribal area in June last year and authorities have now vowed to intensify operations both in the border regions and across the country.
The military claimed more than 2,700 militants have been killed since the launch of the major offensive.
