Washington, May 2 (IANS) There was ‘no better rebuke to Al Qaeda and its heinous ideology’ than the death of its chief Osama bin Laden, US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said Monday.
Bin Laden was killed in a US operation in Pakistan’s Abbottabad city, near Islamabad.
‘The fight continues and we will never waiver,’ Clinton was quoted as saying by CNN.
Clinton said Osama’s death sends a message to the Taliban in Afghanistan that ‘you cannot wait us out. You cannot defeat us. But you can make the choice to abandon Al Qaeda’ and participate in a peaceful political process.
Bin Laden’s death comes at a time of ‘great movements toward freedom and democracy’ in the Middle East and elsewhere, she said.
On some people doubting bin Laden would ever be caught, Clinton said, ‘this is America… We persevere, and we get the job done.’
