Dubai, Jan 3 (IANS/WAM) A total of 576 people, including street vendors, beggars and illegal car washers, have been arrested from public places in Dubai.
The sweep against law-breakers in December 2010 by the Dubai Municipality, Dubai Police and the Dubai Naturalisation and Residency Department also resulted in the seizure of several low-quality goods and pirated CDs.
Among the arrested people, there were 463 street vendors, 35 beggars, 54 car washers and 24 illegal butchers and fish cleaners.
Around 1,600 counterfeit products, including ready-made garments, perfumes and mobile phones were confiscated along with over 6,000 pirated movie DVDs, 250 pornographic movies, 1,200 food items, 150 bottles of whisky and 370 cartons of beer.
The law-breakers, who are of various nationalities, would be deported and the seized goods destroyed and disposed off safely, officials said.
