Islamabad, Jan 30 (IANS) Over two million children will be administered anti-polio vaccine drops in Pakistan’s Balochistan province, which saw the highest number of polio cases in the world in 2011.
A campaign against polio was launched Monday in 27 districts, where at least 73 children were affected by the virus last year, the Daily Times reported.
Masooma Qurban, the Unicef media officer in Pakistan, said two children had been affected with the virus this year so far.
A total of 22 cases were reported in Qila Abdullah, 16 in Pashin, 15 in Quetta, three each in Noshki and Loralai, five in Khuzdar, two each in Qila Saifullah and Mastung and one each in Kohlu, Harnai, Kalat, Dera Bugti and Barkhan.
Abdul Wahab Aslam, a doctor from the World Health Organisation (WHO), said around 7,000 teams of doctors and medical professionals will take part in the campaign.
