Gaza, Feb 28 (IANS) A 21-year-old man was killed and his brother critically wounded after a bomb exploded Saturday in Rafah town in southern Gaza Strip, medics said.
Ashraf al-Qedra, Gaza health ministry spokesman, told Xinhua news agency that the man was killed and his brother wounded after an explosive device suddenly exploded east of Rafah town.
Security officials in Gaza said the explosion occurred close to the inoperative airport east of Rafah town, adding that it was an old bomb left by the Israeli army during last summer’s offensive on the Gaza Strip.
Last week, three Palestinian teenagers were injured in a similar explosion in northern Gaza Strip.
The interior ministry in Gaza had earlier warned the people who live near the border areas between Gaza Strip and Israel not to touch suspicious looking objects.
The ministry said that during the offensive on the Gaza Strip, which lasted for 50 days and ended Aug 26, Israel bombed the coastal enclave with around 20,000 tonnes of explosives.
