Islamabad, Aug 31 (IANS) The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) said Tuesday that none of the four players accused of ‘spot fixing’ in the Lords Test match in England will be suspended from the squad till investigations by Scotland Yard are over.
‘I can confirm that no player will be suspended from the squad till the completion of the Scotland Yard inquiry in the fixing allegations,’ PCB spokesman Nadeem Sarwar said.
Sarwar said that this was decided by PCB chairman Ijaz Butt, who has flown to England after the incident broke out.
The four players, who have been interrogated by the Scotland Yard are skipper Salman Butt, pacers Mohammad Asif and Mohammad Amir and wicketkeeper and vice-captain Kamran Akmal. Debutant Wahab Riaz and Umar Amin have also been linked to the fixing scandal.
Asif and Amir allegedly bowled no-balls on agreed time after taking money from a bookmaker.
London Metropolitan police arrested British match-fixer Mazhar Majeed after a tabloid The News of the World in a sting operation revealed that Mazhar took 150,000 pounds to spot fix the Lord’s Test match.
