New Delhi, May 25 (IANS) The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Tuesday again hit out at Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s press conference on UPA-II’s first anniversary in power, saying he was ‘conspicuously silent or evasive’ on critical issues relating to the infrastructure sector.

‘Proper growth of infrastructure sector is critical for development and it is indeed surprising that the prime minister in his press conference yesterday (Monday) was conspicuously silent or evasive on critical issues relating to this sector,’ BJP spokesperson Ravi Shankar Prasad told reporters here.

‘Nothing like this happened and it was an utter disappointment to see the prime minister not touching on these issues at all,’ he added.

The BJP observed black day Monday, two days after the United Progressive Alliance’s first anniversary in power, and held a demonstration over price rise, the Maoist menace, India’s ‘flawed’ foreign policy and a number of other issues.

The main opposition party Tuesday again criticised the UPA’s performance in various sectors.

Prasad said: ‘The power sector, road sector, agriculture sector, the mess in Air India are critical areas of infrastructure and growth.’

‘It was expected from the prime minister to explain the critical gaps in these areas, but he chose to remain either silent or evasive. The second press conference of Manmohan Singh during the last six years of the UPA government was indeed an utter disappointment,’ he added.
