Warsaw, Feb 29 (IANS) The Police Command Center that will oversee the security of the Euro 2012 football championship was opened at a police training center in Legionowo, on the outskirts of Warsaw.
It is a symbolic conclusion of a certain phase of security-related preparations for the Euro 2012 co-hosted by Poland and Ukraine, Polish Interior Minister Jacek Cichocki said.
“This is the heart of the entire system. Police has kept all the deadlines, there were no delays,” Cichocki was quoted as saying by Xinhua, adding that the command center will serve as a place of exchange of information with services and police from other countries.
During the tournament, officers from the center will be in constant contact with all provincial police headquarters and the police forces in cities hosting the tournament.
The 16-nation Euro 2012, slated for June 8-July 1, will take place in four Polish cities of Warsaw, Gdansk, Wroclaw and Poznan as well as four Ukrainian cities of Kiev, Lvov, Donetsk and Kharkov.
