Tbilisi, August 1 (IANS) Rescuers have brought down to safety four Polish climbers trapped due to bad weather in Mount Shkhara, the highest peak in the Georgian Greater Caucasus mountain range.
The Polish climbers trapped for the past three days were in good health, their rescuers told Xinhua.
Mount Shkhara, standing at 5,193 metres above sea level, is the third highest mountain peak along the Greater Caucasus mountain range, after Mount Elbrus (5,642 metres) and Mount Dykh-Tau (5,205 metres).
Mount Shkhara was first climbed in 1888 and the first complete traverse of its 12-km-long ridge known as the Bezingi Wall was made in 1931.
The Bezingi Wall is considered Europe’s longest, most arduous and most committing expedition.
