Tegucigalpa, Jan 28 (Inditop.com) Porfirio Lobo was inaugurated as Honduras’ new president Wednesday.

Some 30 international representatives were present at the swearing in ceremony in Tiburcio Carnas Andino National Stadium, Xinhua reported.

During the ceremony, National Congress president Juan Orlando Hernandez placed the presidential band on Lobo.

“I pledge to be faithful to the republic and ensure its laws are enforced,” Lobo said in his oath.

“We are ready to face the future united … I am sure that the dialogue solves everything,” he added.

Lobo also signed an amnesty decree for forgiving those involved in the coup June 28, 2009, that ousted Manuel Zelaya from power.

The National Congress approved the decree.

“Today we want to cure the injuries of the past,” said the new president, adding, “I want to make clear that the amnesty refers only to the events related to the political order.”
