Nottingham, July 30 (IANS) Indian pacer Praveen Kumar has been fined 20 percent of his match fee for arguing with the umpire over an appeal during the first day of the second cricket Test against England here Friday.
‘Kumar was found to have breached article 2.1.3 of the ICC code which relates to arguing or entering into a prolonged discussion with the umpire about his decision,’ ICC said in a statement Saturday.
Kumar’s appeal for a leg before wicket against England batsman Kevin Pietersen was turned down by umpire Marais Erasmus in the 18th over. He then engaged in a debate with the umpire about the decision.
‘Kumar has been fined 20 percent of his match fee after pleading guilty to a Level 1 breach.’
The player admitted to the offence and accepted the proposed sanction offered to him by match referee Ranjan Madugalle.
‘As such, there was no need for a formal hearing. The charge had been laid by the on-field umpires Asad Rauf and Marais Erasmus and third umpire Billy Bowden of the ICC panel as well as fourth umpire Tim Robinson.’
