Abu Dhabi, July 4 (IANS/WAM) Most Islamic countries may begin the holy month of Ramadan July 21, after the sighting of the crescent moon, the Islamic Crescent Observation Project (ICOP) has said.
ICOP chairman Mohammad Showkat Awda said most Islamic countries would start monitoring the Ramadan crescent moon from July 19.
However, the moon would not be visible in all regions of the world because it will set along with the sun. Thus it will not be possible to see it even with powerful telescopes. It will be seen only from the far south of Africa and South America.
Many northern and middle eastern regions should complete the month of Sha’aban with 30 days and observe the beginning of Ramadan Saturday, July 21, he said.
