Nottingham, July 31 (IANS) England off-spinner Graeme Swann was rebuked by match referee Ranjan Madugalle for kicking the stumps in the 80th over of India’s innings during day two of the second Test at Trent Bridge here.

Swann was reprimanded for a Level 1 breach of the International Cricket Council (ICC) Code of Conduct at the end of play Saturday.

Swann’s act of kicking the stumps in frustration and dislodging the bails was followed by his quick apology to the on-field umpires Marais Erasmus and Asad Rauf.

Swann was found to have breached Article 2.1.2 of the code which relates to abuse of cricket equipment or clothing, ground equipment or fixtures and fittings during an international match.

The player admitted the offence and accepted the proposed sanction offered to him by Madugalle. As such, there was no need for a formal hearing. The charge had been laid by the Rauf and Erasmus as well as third umpire Billy Bowden and fourth umpire Tim Robinson.
