London, Jan 2 (IANS) England international Wayne Rooney was reportedly fined 200,000 pounds and dropped for Manchester United’s game against Blackburn Rovers after the striker turned up for a training session bearing the effects of a long night out.

Rooney saw from the corporate box as his team slumped to a 2-3 defeat at home to the then bottom-of-the-table side Blackburn.

Rooney, who has scored 13 goals from 17 games this season, apparently reached the training ground still feeling the effects of a night out with Darron Gibson and Jonny Evans and their partners.

Rooney and Gibson trained while Evans was injured but Manchester boss Sir Alex Ferguson was so livid with the three players that he told them to report to Carrington the following day for extra work while the rest of the first-team squad had the day off.
