Islamabad, Jan 1 (IANS) An estimated Rs.60 million was looted in 19 bank robberies in Pakistan’s port city Karachi last year, according to official statistics.

Of this, authorities recovered Rs.1.6 million, the Daily Times reported Sunday.

Karachi, a city of around two million, also saw ethnic violence, mafia clashes, target killings and extortion as well as an alarming rise in bank robberies.

Robbers fearlessly looted banks. In all 19 bank robberies, the robbers managed to snatch weapons from security guards and damage the CCTV cameras as they fled.

Sindh Home Minister Manzoor Wasan admitted that the security guards were untrained and hence could put up no resistance.
