New Delhi, May 7 (Inditop.com) A parliamentarian from Kashmir, Sharifuddin Shariq, Friday sought compliments from his Lok Sabha colleagues because a doctor from the troubled state topped this year’s coveted Indian civil services examination.

“I deserve congratulations from the house because a man from Jammu and Kashmir who is a victim of militant violence has topped (the Indian Administrative Service-IAS exam),” Shariq said in the house.

However, Speaker Meira Kumar didn’t allow him to complete his sentence because Shariq was digressing from his main point which was to thank and congratulate Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Congress president Sonia Gandhi over the government’s decision to consider caste-based census in the country.

Seven years after terrorists killed his father, Shah Faesal from the frontier district of Kupwara became the first Kashmiri to top the civil services examinations.

Shariq, a veteran National Conference leader, is the Lok Sabha MP from the district, which is known as the Kashmir Valley’s gateway of militancy through which most infiltrators from Pakistan enter.
