Brussels, May 24 (IANS) India’s Sania Mirza and her American partner Bethanie Mattek-Sands qualified for the final of the WTA Brussels Open tennis beating Anastasia Rodionova and Casey Dellacqua 6-3, 4-6, 10-5 here Thursday.
The fourth seed Indo-American pair started well before facing some stiff challenge from the Australian combo. But the India-American pair won in one hour and 21 minutes in the semi-finals of the $637,400 clay court event.
Sania and Mattek took a comfortable 4-2 lead in the second set and it looked they would sail easily into the title clash. But the Australians came back strongly bagging four games in a row to take the match into the third set.
In the third set, Sania and Bethanie trailed 1-4 in the tie-breaker but then made great recovery to win seven consecutive points. They converted first of the four match points to march ahead.
Sania is now on the verge of winning her second doubles title of the year and 14th overall. The Indians had won Pattaya Open with Rodionova .
Both Sania and Bethanie had qualified for a summit clash on the WTA for the second time. The duo had had won Cincinnati Open in 2009.
