Lucknow, Feb 8 (Inditop.com) Seven Bangladeshi nationals, including a woman, allegedly involved in a human trafficking were arrested in Uttar Pradesh’s Muzaffarnagar district, police said Monday.
“Acting on information from officials of the Local Intelligence Unit (LIU), we raided a hideout in the Nai Mandi area late Sunday evening and arrested the seven Bangladeshi nationals,” police inspector R.P. Dubey told reporters in Muzaffarnagar, some 350 km from Lucknow.
Preliminary investigations reveal that the gang used to secretly bring Bangladeshi nationals to the country at a charge, promising them jobs here.
“Investigations are on to find out whether the arrested people have any kind of criminal background or links with any clandestine outfits,” Dubey said, adding they have given vital information about several Bangladeshi nationals who are living illegally in Muzaffarnagar and its adjoining districts.
According to police, the seven admitted that they had been working in this racket for the last five years and it is present in various districts of the state as well as neighbouring Bihar, Jharkhand and Uttarakhand.
They revealed that they used to enter India illegally through the West Bengal border.
