Toronto, Feb 11 (Inditop.com) Canadians were shocked Wednesday when they saw a young politician on their TV screens admitting to serial infidelities and abandoning his campaign for the country’s dream job – the mayor of Toronto.
Considered the second-most powerful political post in Canada, the job of the mayor of Toronto, the biggest city, is a stepping stone to the two top jobs in the country – the premier of Ontario province and the prime minister.
But 32-year-old Toronto councillor Adam Giambrone had his dream cut short Wednesday when he admitted on television that he cheated on his live-in girlfriend Sarah McQuarrie by having sexual relations with many women. “There are weeks that change your life and this one has certainly changed mine. This searing experience has taught me, permanently I hope, that a public career of integrity cannot survive deceit in your private life,” the disgraced councillor said.
Apologizing to his girlfriend, city council and the public, he said, “My mistakes have caused hurt to my partner Sarah, to my family, to my friends and to my supporters. To them, and the women I have treated disrespectfully in front of you I humbly apologize.
“I want to apologize to the council, to my fellow councillors, for the negative attention that I have brought them and to this chamber. I want to apologize also to the communities across this city and to the young people who believed in me.”
The rising politician admitted to serial infidelities after a 20-year-old Toronto university student and aspiring actress revealed her secret sexual relationship with him. Kristen Lucas told a local newspaper that she started sexual relationship with the aspiring mayor about a year ago.
As proof of their sexual relationship, she produced many sexually loaded text messages by the young politician to her.
Lucas said the politician first “told me he didn’t have a girlfriend.” She said he told her in a facebook message in December 2008, “I am actually pretty transparent. I live with my brother. I swim a lot and like to spend time travelling. How’s that for a beginning.”
But then in a text message to her December 27, he said, “You know I will be announcing I have a partner. It is someone named Sarah (McQuarrie), who I’ve been involved with in the past. It is important for the campaign.”
He added, “I am NOT marrying (Sarah).”
The student said she was furious, texting him, “Please don’t tell me you’re doing this for the campaign. You’re actually going to build a life you don’t want? That’s mind-blowing.
“You HAD to choose someone good for your campaign. That’s f… ridiculous.”
In one of his messages, Giambrone told the girl, “I like you because you’re smart and interesting. You’re also good-looking naked.”
The student revealed that she once had sex with him on his couch at his city hall office.
