Sydney, July 2 (IANS) Women wearing the burqa or full-face veils will now be forced to show their faces when stopped by police, a senior official said.
Attorney-General Greg Smith said it was the duty of all citizens to identify themselves when asked by police and the law should reflect that, the Daily Telegraph reported.
He said he could understand the public outcry over situation like that of a Muslim woman who was jailed for knowingly making a false complaint about racism by police, but the sentence was overturned on appeal in the district court.
