Kathmandu, Jan 1 (IANS) Six Indian nationals, visiting Nepal as tourists, were killed and five others injured when the jeep they were travelling in plunged into a river in Tanahun district Tuesday night.
The six seriously injured occupants of the vehicle, including the driver, were undergoing treatment in a Kathmandu hospital.
The jeep was carrying the tourists from Kolkata from the popular tourist city of Pokhara to Kathmandu when the accident happened.
The vehicle plunged some 60 metres from the Prithvi Highway into the river at Chunpahara at Bandipur-6 in Tanahun district of western Nepal, some 150 km from Kathmandu.
Those killed have been identified as Binay Kumar Tiwari, 85, Kalawati Tiwari, 56, Poonam Tripathi, 33, Neha Tripathi, 20, Hemanta Tripathi, 13, and Nilam Tripathi, 36.
Those injured are driver Yubaraj Gurung, Ashi Dubey, 8, Aryan Dubey, 9, Satendra Dubey, 34, and Rabindra Kant Tripathi, 43.
Nilam died on the way to hospital, traffic official Bhesh Raj Regmi said, adding that the cause of the accident was not clear yet.
According to Republica online, the bodies of those killed were being kept at a hospital in Damauli, the Tanahun district headquarters.
