London, July 1 (IANS) A snake expert who only a few days ago wished to die of a cobra’s bite, has died in just this way, Daily Express reported.
Luke Yeomans had said just days before his death how he was so devoted to king cobras that it would be ‘worth it’ if one killed him, it was revealed Thursday.
The conservationist suffered a heart attack when he was bitten at the sanctuary he ran at his home in the former mining town of Eastwood, Notts, Wednesday.
Last week, during a radio interview, Luke, 47, had prophetically said his 30 years of dedicated work with cobras meant it would be worth it if he was bitten and ‘felt his life drifting away’.
His friends said even as he kept a stock of anti-venom close by when handling his collection, the bite he received was so big that it wasn’t enough to save his life.
Chris Newman, chairman of the Federation of British Herpetologists, said: ‘He knew the risks involved. He paid the ultimate price for his work.’
