Tripoli, May 30 (IANS) South African President Jacob Zuma arrived in the Libyan capital Tripoli Monday for talks to end the conflict between long-time leader Muammar Gaddafi’s forces and rebels, as calls mount for Gaddafi to step down, Al Jazeera reported.

Zuma’s office said the main objectives of his visit include negotiating an immediate ceasefire and enabling delivery of humanitarian aid, said Xinhua.

The office rejected reports that the talks would focus on an exit strategy for Gaddafi, terming them as ‘misleading’.

It said the visit was part of the African Union’s efforts to end the conflict between Gaddafi’s forces and rebels.

Libyan state TV said Zuma would discuss the implementation of the AU roadmap for peace, which was drawn up in February and called for an immediate ceasefire.
