Lucknow, Oct 3 (Inditop.com) A woman tourist from Sri Lanka was found dead near the railway tracks in Uttar Pradesh’s Chandauli district, the police said Saturday.

Herat Mudian Anulla, 61, was found dead late Friday evening near the railway tracks in the Bhagwantalab locality in Chandauli district, police Inspector R.B. Singh told Inditop on phone.

Police said prima facie it appeared that she died after being hit by a train. However, they are waiting for the post-mortem report.

According to police, Anulla along with nearly 100 other tourists from Sri Lanka landed Thursday in Varanasi district and visited the Sarnath temple. After a night halt, the tourists Friday proceeded for Gaya in Bihar.

“When the bus reached Chandauli, it stopped at an eating joint and the tourists alighted for snacks. After having her tea, Anulla told her friends that she wants to take a stroll and would be right back in a few minutes,” said Singh.

As Anulla did not return in time, her friends got worried and started looking for her. Later, they came across her body lying near the railway tracks, he added.

According to police, Anulla had a hearing problem and probably failed to hear the sound of the approaching train that hit her after which she succumbed to head injuries.

Chandauli is about 300 km from Lucknow.
