London, June 25 (IANS) Actor Sylvester Stallone is planning to give up acting for direction.

‘The ultimate ambition is to follow in Clint Eastwood’s footsteps and move on to directing films without me having to be in them,’ express.co.uk quoted the actor, who recently received a special award at the Los Angeles Film Festival for his film career, as saying.

‘I’m on borrowed time and know my longevity will be predicated on being able to make that move,’ said Stallone who acted and directed the ‘Rocky’ franchise.

Meanwhile, the actor is geared up for the explosive action movie ‘Expendables’ in which he leads a gang of veteran mercenaries on a deadly mission. Ageing action icons Arnold Schwarzenegger, 62, Bruce Willis, 55, and Mickey Rourke, 57 will make cameo appearances in the movie.
