Taipei, Jan 3 (DPA) Taiwan and US police have jointly cracked an international child pornography ring which arranged for clients to have sex with children, it was announced Monday.
The FBI has arrested the ring leader, a Russian immigrant, in Los Angeles, while Taiwan’s Criminal Investigation Bureau (CIB) has arrested a local computer engineer in Taipei, CIB said.
CIB international affairs official Lee Chia-chin said a computer seized from the local man contained many pornographic photos and videos involving children from Europe and Australia.
Lee said the suspect arrested in Los Angeles had set up a website and posted the photos and videos on his website.
‘If viewers wanted to have webcam sex or meet a child for sex, it would be arranged for a fee,’ he said.
To avoid being tracked by police, the website last year was routed through the server in Taipei.
Lee said it was unclear how many children were victimised by the criminal ring, because the FBI was still decoding the data found in the computer server.
