London, Jan 1 (IANS) A 19-year-old has died trying to climb Britain’s highest mountain Scafell Pike in snowy conditions, police said.
The teenager — whose name and nationality were not disclosed — was camping with a friend at Wasdale Head near the 3,208-feet mountain in Cumbria, around 530 km from London.
They set off Friday morning to climb the peak, The Independent reported Sunday.
Police received a call from the friend at 5.30 p.m. who said they had got lost on the mountain and the teenager went missing. He was last seen around 3 p.m.
A mountain rescue team began a search Friday for the missing teen but called off the manhunt due to the harsh weather conditions.
The search was resumed Saturday with a British Royal Navy helicopter, and around noon the body of the missing teen was found, police said.
