Melbourne, April 4 (Inditop.com) An 18-year-old pilot of a light aircraft made an emergency landing on a busy road in Australia’s Hobart city. No one was injured, a media report said Sunday.
The aircraft landed at about 10 a.m. on the city-bound lanes of the Brooker Highway that links central Hobart to the northern suburbs, ABC online reported.
The plane circled a few times before diving onto the highway and crashing into an embankment.
Brad Almond, a witness, said: “It must have been incredibly lucky to get a gap in the traffic.”
“I did see a couple of motor vehicles close by straight away after the accident. So I’m imagining it came very close to actually hitting a car,” Almond was quoted as saying.
The pilot, who is believed to have been recently accepted to the airforce and was home on Easter holidays, exited the cockpit and ran down the highway to direct traffic.
The teenager has been praised by the police and fire crew for bringing the plane down safely.
