Bangkok, Feb 6 (IANS) Twelve task forces will be set up to arrest 19 leaders of anti-government protestors against whom arrest warrants have been issued by the Thailand Criminal Court, a minister said Thursday.
Thai Labour Minister Chalerm Yoobamrung said there would be no violence against the People’s Democratic Reform Committee (PDRC) leaders during the arresting process.
Chalerm, who is also director of the Centre for Maintaining Peace and Order, said the centre was also seeking arrest warrants against 39 other PDRC leaders for violating the state of emergency, Xinhua reported.
Some 1,000 volunteers and police will be deployed within four days to take control of the interior ministry, which the protestors have laid siege to, the minister said.
The criminal court Thursday issued an arrest warrant for a senior monk for allegedly disrupting the Feb 2 general elections.
The monk, Luang Pu Putta Issara, led a rally outside the Lak Si district office Feb 1 to block the delivery of voting ballots ahead of the Feb 2 elections in Bangkok.
The rally later turned into a clash between protestors and government supporters, leaving at least eight people injured while resulting in the cancellation of voting in the Lak Si district.
