Moscow, Dec 29 (IANS/RIA Novosti) Three members of a carjacking gang were Thursday sentenced to life in prison for 22 murders in the Russian capital.

The victims included people from China, Vietnam, Lithuania, Armenia, Azerbaijan and Tajikistan.

The Moscow regional court said the gang, led by two former police officers, attacked owners of expensive cars in Moscow region during 2000-07.

Members of the gang posed as traffic policemen and would signal cars to pull over and then kill their drivers.

‘These monsters dragged my brother out of the car, beat, strangled and burned him until he died, then took $5,000 in cash he was carrying and his car, a Land Cruiser,’ a man said.

Most gang members were arrested in 2007. Some were sentenced for similar crimes in 2009.
