Islamabad, July 2 (IANS) A Pakistani parliamentary watchdog has formally held responsible three retired army generals for a loss of Rs.1.82 billion to the public exchequer, a media report said.

The National Assembly’ Public Accounts Committee Friday held the three retired generals guilty of ‘lapse of discipline, lack of transparency and blatant violation of government rules and regulations during their tenure’, reported Dawn.

The generals were allegedly involved in dabbling in the stock exchange that led to a massive loss to the National Logistics Cell (NLC).

The NLC is a subsidiary of the Planning Commission but is dominated by the army.

The former top army officers who have been held responsible are Lt Gen (retd) Khalid Munir Khan, Lt Gen (retd) Mohammad Afzal Muzaffar and Maj Gen (retd) Khalid Zaheer Akhtar.

An audit report had earlier said the NLC management had taken unauthorised loans of Rs.4.3 billion between 2004 and 2008 for investment in the stock market.
