London, April 5 (Inditop.com) Former British prime minister Tony Blair burnt breakfast at his stately home, triggering smoke alarms. A spokesperson described the incident as “rather embarrassing”.

Three fire engines were rushed to Blair’s six million pound home in Buckinghamshire Saturday morning after the former prime minister activated the smoke alarms while cooking breakfast, The Telegraph reported.

Smoke drifted from the kitchen into other rooms in the seven-bedroom house.

Firefighters were alerted by an automatic alarm system. The firefighting crew from Haddenham, however, found no evidence of an actual fire.

The alarm was raised about 9.30 a.m. by automatic fire sensors at the home that is monitored by a security firm.

The Haddenham crew was followed by another from Aylesbury and a third from Thame, Oxon, which was turned back once the first firefighters had arrived.

“The Blairs were cooking breakfast when the smoke alarm went off. Because they live in a Grade 1 listed building, the smoke alarm is automatically connected to the local fire station, so the fire brigade sprang into action immediately.

“In fact it was just smoke without a fire but by the time Mrs Blair rang the fire service to tell them they didn’t need to come, they were already on their way. All rather embarrassing and she’ll certainly be sending them a big thank you note,” a spokesperson for the Blairs was quoted as saying.

Buckinghamshire Fire and Rescue spokesperson said they could not comment on whether the Blairs were in the house at the time of the incident Saturday morning, but confirmed the incident had taken place.

“We deal with all these incidents as swiftly as possible and with the minimum of fuss for every resident, regardless of who they are.”
