Moscow, Dec 29 (IANS/RIA Novosti) Over 20 alleged diesel smugglers were killed in an overnight air raid by the Turkish Air Force on a predominantly Kurdish-populated area at the Turkish border with Iraq, local media reported Thursday.
The air raid near Uludere village in the southeastern Sirnak province commenced at 9.00 p.m. (GMT) Wednesday, Turkey’s Hurriyet Daily News said.
‘Unmanned drones and thermal cameras detected a big group [of individuals] on the Iraqi side of the border, and jets took off,’ the newspaper quoted citing a news agency.
The Sirnak governor confirmed over 20 people were killed in the operation, the report said, adding that the victims were believed to be diesel smuggling peasants.
