London, Sep 30 (IANS) A non-stop TV watching competition is being held in the Netherlands to mark 60 years of Dutch television, the Daily Mail reported.
The event that requires participants to stay awake watching television non-stop for as long as possible, commenced Thursday (Sep 29) at 7 a.m. and will last till Sunday midnight (Oct2).
Settled in chairs with blankets, headphones and refreshments, each of the participants has been given their own ‘box’ in a specially-constructed set in which to glue themselves to the small screen.
Observers looking into the set from outside can watch the participants on display through numerous ‘windows’, making it easier catch out anyone ‘resting’ their eyes or dropping off.
Anyone succeeding in breaking the current world record of 86 hours, six minutes and 41 seconds, could be in with a chance of a free holiday. Anyone still awake in the early hours of Monday morning (Oct 3), will win an all-expenses-paid trip to Los Angeles, provided by Dutch television station BNN.
The attempt is being held at the Netherlands Institute for Sound and Vision, in the northern town of Hilversum, and is being filmed by Duth broadcaster Bart’s Neverending Network (BNN).
