Kabul, March 31 (IANS) At least two people were killed and five injured when a suicide bomber blew himself up in Afghanistan Monday, an official said.

“A terrorist wearing an explosives-laden vest wanted to enter a mosque in Charkh district, 60 km south of Kabul, this morning. Fortunately, he was identified by police and stopped. However, the terrorist blew himself up, killing himself and a policeman on the spot and injured four personnel of police,” Deen Mohammad Darvish, a spokesman for the provincial government, told Xinhua.
The blast took place amid ongoing operations in Charkh district to ensure security for the April 5 presidential and provincial councils elections.
The militants Saturday mounted a massive suicide attack against the Election Commission headquarters in Kabul, but all the five attackers were killed after five hours of gun battle, authorities said.
