Manila, Sep 29 (Xinhua) Two US servicemen and Filipino marine soldier in southern Philippines were killed Tuesday when their Hummer jeep hit a landmine, an official said.
Two people were wounded in the blast near a marine detachment in Indanan town of Sulu province Tuesday morning, chief military spokesperson Lt. Col. Romeo Brawner said.
Brawner initially said one was killed and four others were injured, but he updated the death toll in a text message sent to reporters.
Rebecca Thompson, spokesperson of the US Embassy in Manila, said they were investigating the incident but gave no more details.
US troops have been stationed in southern Philippines to help their Filipino counterparts fight Al Qaeda-linked militants. It remains unclear who planted the landmine.
