Abu Dhabi, Aug 25 (IANS/WAM) Abu Dhabi government has asked its officials to provide logistic support to the UN team working in Pakistan’s flood-affected areas.
Lt. General Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, has instructed the authorities concerned to assist in the relief and rescue operations in the country.
Abu Dhabi Police has allowed entry to the team from the United Nations Disaster Assessment and Coordination (UNDAC) and provided them with access to its satellite telecommunications network to expedite the relief operations in remote villages of Pakistan.
Major Mohammed Abdul Jalil Al Ansari, Field Liaison Officer with the UN, said the Abu Dhabi Police’s Central Operations had coordinated with the foreign ministry to facilitate entry of the UNDAC team into the country without prior visas.
‘The UN team was welcomed at Abu Dhabi International Airport and provided with the state-of-the-art satellite-based telecommunication equipments and shock/water/dust resistant computers to facilitate their travel to the affected country,’ he added.
