Abu Dhabi, Aug 31 (IANS/WAM) The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has sent 500 tonnes of food to Somalia as part of its humanitarian assistance to the poverty-stricken country during the holy month of Ramadan.

Abdullah Mattar Al Mazrouie, UAE ambassador to Yemen, said more than 500 tonnes of food supplies were sent from Sana’a to save time and energy. The quick response by the Khalifa bin Zayed Charity Foundation was aimed at meeting the needs of Somali people during Ramadan.

Somali ambassador to Yemen Mohammed Hassan said the aid would help Somalis cope with the ongoing food crisis.

In coordination with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), the Foundation will also organise a special camp for Somali refugees in Yemen on the last day of the fasting month of Ramadan. A similar camp will be organised in Yemen.
