Abu Dhabi, July 6 (Inditop.com) The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has signed an agreement with the UN to support humanitarian operations in Pakistan, WAM news agency reported Monday.

Under the agreement, UAE will provide basic relief items such as tents, blankets, sleeping mats, plastic sheeting and mosquito nets for the internally displaced people in Pakistan.

UNHCR considers the current humanitarian crisis that involves more than two million people displaced by the fighting between troops and Islamic militants in Pakistan’s North West Frontier Province and the Federally Administered Tribal Areas as one of its largest and most complex operation in years, said Panos Moumtzis, UNHCR’s head of resource mobilisation.

“We value our cooperation with UNHCR and feel delighted the UAE government and the Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan Foundation are supporting the urgent humanitarian needs of the displaced families in Pakistan,” said Mohamed Haji Al Khoori, executive director of the Khalifa Foundation.
