United Nations, April 10 (Inditop.com/RIA Novosti) UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon will attend the nuclear security summit in Washington April 12-13, a UN spokesman said.
The summit, which brings together 40 heads of state including Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, will focus mainly on the vulnerability of nuclear materials and securing them from terrorists.
“The secretary general will highlight the importance of coordination of global efforts at the national, regional and international level to address these challenges,” UN spokesman Farhan Haq said.
“He will also discuss his initiatives, including the Action Plan on nuclear disarmament and non-proliferation,” he added.
The summit comes after the signing Thursday of a new strategic arms reduction treaty by Presidents Barack Obama of the US and President Dmitry Medvedev of Russia.
