Skhirat (Morocco), July 13 (IANS) Morocco has played a “very important role” in affording political support to the talks between the warring Libyan parties, crowned by the initialling Saturday night of the Skhirat Agreement aimed at ending the political and military crisis in the north African country, UN Special Envoy Bernardino Leon has said.

“The Skhirat Agreement was made possible thanks to the contribution of many Libyans who worked within the working groups and other groups, but also thanks to the host country, Morocco, which has played a very important role, which is not only a host role, but also a role of political support,” the UN official told MAP news agency following the initialling ceremony of the agreement.
“This is a very important partnership between Morocco and the UN mission”, especially that “during the next step, the parties will work on complex aspects, namely the formation of a national unity government, the negotiation of annexes (of the Agreement) and especially the involvement of armed groups, the Libyan army and the militias”, Leon said.
Libyan dialogue participants on Saturday night initialled the Libyan Political Agreement at a ceremony held in Skhirat, Morocco, which aims to cease fighting and form a unity government.
