Washington, June 1 (DPA) Former presidential candidate Al Gore and his wife, Tipper, are separating after 40 years of marriage, the Washington power couple announced Tuesday in a statement.
The couple, who me at a high-school dance, said in an email, that said it was ‘a mutual and mutually supportive decision that we have made together following a process of long and careful consideration’.
The couple has four grown up children and both reside in Nashville, Tennessee.
Gore was the vice president under Bill Clinton from 1992 to 2000, when he lost the closely contested presidential election to George W Bush after a Supreme Court vote ended the Florida recount. Gore left traditional politics to become a climate change activist, and went on to win the Nobel Peace Prize as well as an Oscar for his movie ‘An Inconvenient Truth’.
